Hillery faces felony charges for aggravated assault and meth possession. She was arrested again last week for violating probation.

In a statement, the Third Ward council member said the best way she can help Galesburg now is by letting go of her elected position to focus on her health and family.

Hillery was elected in 2019. Mayor Peter Schwartzman will appoint a replacement to fill out the remainder of her term.
