LaHood Among House Republicans Backing Texas Effort to Overturn Election Results

U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood is among the 106 House Republicans who signed an amicus brief in support of the Texas attorney general's lawsuit seeking to overturn the election results in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

The four states flipped, proving pivotal for Democrat Joe Biden's win last month. President Donald Trump carried all of those states in 2016.

All 50 states have certified their election results. State and federal officials say there is no evidence of widespread election fraud.

In a statement, LaHood said he believes Trump has a right to make his case, and he believes the U.S. Supreme Court is the appropriate venue to examine any allegations of election irregularities.

"The cornerstone of our democracy is our electoral system and any irregularities presented should be investigated," he said.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a GOP bid to overturn Pennsylvania's election results on Tuesday.

Mike Bost was the only other Illinois Republican congressman to sign onto the amicus brief.

LaHood's 18th Congressional District includes parts of the Peoria and Bloomington-Normal areas.
