A man is dead after a shooting just south of downtown Peoria on Sunday night.

Peoria police responded to a ShotSpotter alert of five rounds fired near the Landmark Apartments. Officers found a victim, later identified as 28-year-old Roosevelt Hunter III, lying unresponsive on the sidewalk on Shipman. Police say he appeared to suffer at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no suspect information at this time. The victim's identity will be released following an autopsy.

This is Peoria's 12th homicide of 2020.
