UIC Reaches Agreement With Union After 10-Day Strike

Tim Shelley / Peoria Public Radio
UICOMP employees unionized under SEIU Local 73, were striking along Main and Kumpf on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020.

After 10 days, the University of Illinois Chicago employee strike is ending.
Service Employees International Union Local 73 said it reached a tentative agreement covering the 4,000 UIC employees across the state it represents. That includes about 150 workers at the College of Medicine in Peoria.

The union said a tentative agreement was reached on pay raises across the board, a personal protective equipment committment from Gov. JB Pritzker, a $15 minimum wage for workers in Chicago, and protections around staffing levels and outsourcing.
