Dunlap Plots Full Return to School This Fall

Dunlap CUSD 323 via YouTube
Dunlap Superintendent Dr. Scott Dearman gives an update on Fall 2020 plans on the district YouTube channel, Monday, June 29, 2020.

Dunlap students will be returning for full weeks of school this fall.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Dearman said he's studied the hybrid in-person and digital instruction plan adopted by Peoria Public Schools District 150, but doesn't plan on recommending it to the Dunlap school board.

"I do a cost-benefit analysis, and I just don't see much benefit in doing that hybrid model," he said. "So we will be returning to school fully in the fall. So five days a week."

Under Peoria's hybrid plan, students will be split up into "A" and "B" groups. One group will attend in-person on Mondays and Wednesday; the other, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All other instructional days will be digital learning days in an effort to limit the number of people physically present in a school building at any one time and to allow for more extensive cleaning.

Dearman notes that it won't be business as usual in Dunlap, however. He says committees will look at implementing safety guidelines, plans for switching back to full e-learning if needed, and options for parents who don't want to send their kids back to a physical school building.

The board is expected to vote on a fall plan next month.
