The Peoria Zoo is reopening this weekend to the general public.Members can visit a day earlier on Friday. Peoria Park District director Emily Cahill said they're excited to allow families to visit the animals again, but says there are some changes.
"All tickets will be required to be purchased online now in advance. There will be two different sections available, so think of the zoo now as kind of a movie theater experience," she said.
Those two time slots for visits are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors must follow a marked, one-way path around the zoo.
Cahill says visitors over age 2 will be required to wear masks unless there's a medical reason, Some options, like giraffe feeding and indoor exhibits, aren't available.
Fore! More golf
With phase 3 of the governor's reopening plan also comes the easing of more golfing restrictions.
Cahill said more will be available Friday.
"The Golf Learning Center will open to the community, and we're very excited about that. We'll also be able to expand our tee time availability. So we'll be back to foursomes, back to the way people know and love playing golf," she said.
Cahill says there is still one big exception: only one person to a cart, unless the passenger is someone you live with.
Playgrounds and basketball courts remain closed to the public.
