Local Golfers Tee Up For Friday Games

Local golfers are raring to get back onto the course Friday.
Peoria Park District Deputy Director Brett Wheeler said there's already a long line for tee times.
"All four courses, with that fourth course being the Kellar executive nine, have most of their tee times, if not all of their tee times filled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So that's fantastic," Wheeler said.
Carrie Williams, executive director of Illinois PGA Section, said the return of golf under Gov. J.B. Pritzker's modified stay-at-home order for the month of May is good news for players and course operators alike.
"We've thought for a long time that golf could be part of the solution, as people seek physical activity and relief from some emotional stress, and we're thrilled that they're going to be given the opportunity," she said.

A list of golf restrictions outlined by Peoria Park District Deputy Director Brett Wheeler.

There are some restrictions. Golfers can only play in pairs, and they must bring their own tees, balls, and other equipment. Social distancing from other players is required. Tee times will be staggered in 15 minute intervals, double the usual. Players feeling ill are asked to stay home.
Peoria Park District Director Emily Cahill said the goal is to make the game as fun as possible given the added restrictions."We're glad to be back on the course, and we look forward to that experience. And hopefully we work through this process," said Cahill. "This is one of those reasons, right, where we phase a reopening, so that, if we can be responsible generally, then hopefully we can lift some of these restrictions and get back to foursomes and beverage carts and all the things we like about golf."
