The Peoria Fire Department will start charging a fee when care facilities call for lift assistance. The department has determined that the approximate cost of each lift assist incident is $1,250.
Peoria City Council members voted to set a fee of $800 for six months and consider raising it to the full cost at a later date.
The fire department says they responded to 85 of these non-emergency calls in 2019, but since the council first mentioned charging a fee, there have been no further calls.
