Adjustments to meet the challenge of COVID-19 continued at Monday's Greater Peoria Mass Transit District Meeting. Board members joined the meeting remotely and passed a handful of resolutions, including one that establishes a plan to pay CityLink employees off of work due to COVID-related concerns.
General Manager Doug Roelfs explained some of the reasons CityLink employees were at home.
"This pretty much lays out all the time off that was given, either because people had symptoms, or they had to stay home because their childcare was no longer available, or their doctor recommended they stay home because they could be susceptible to the disease," he said.
Chief Financial Officer Christine Feng said that 30 percent of the transit system’s employees are currently off work. Their salaries will be covered by funds from the CARES Act and other coronavirus relief bills. Among other resolutions discussed were a proposal that would allow bus drivers to take “appropriate measures” to make sure riders were picked up safely, and a proposal for a grant application that would start a $2.2 million virtual training project for the transit district.
