4-Year-Old EP Boy Declared Brain Dead

Creative Commons

A 4-year-old East Peoria boy whose injuries are now under investigation is declared brain dead.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said he was declared brain dead last Thursday.

Tazewell County State's Attorney Stuart Umholtz said Wednesday the investigation into the "tragic death" is continuing. Umholtz said the initial investigation by the East Peoria Police Department and DCFS led to his office petitioning the court to remove the other kids from the home for their safety.

Police became involved due to the nature of the child's injuries. He was found in cardiac arrest last week. Further details haven't been released.
