Peoria Second District Councilman Chuck Grayeb said he's still seriously concerned about the fate of the historic Koinonia House at the foot of Knoxville Avenue.
The building's current owner, Chris Petruzzi, said Sunday he's signed a contract to sell the building, and demolition plans are halted.
But Grayeb said a non-disclosure agreement sealing details on the buyer that he and city staff learned about Monday is sounding alarm bells.
"I have no reason to believe that the structure is safe, given the folks that are currently involved in it," Grayeb said.
He said a "tough fight" is still ahead to save the building from the wrecking ball.
The Victorian mansion was built in 1894 for Peoria businessman Peter Spruck. It last served as an apartment complex for Christian singles before a July 2019 fire. Petruzzi said it would cost nearly $600,000 to repair the house.
