The Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending approval of recreational cannabis sales at two locations.
Trinity Compassionate Care Center wants to sell recreational cannabis out of its current medical dispensary at 3125 N. University, near Forrest Hill.
The cannabis business also wants to rent part of the old School House store at 2301 W. Glen Avenue as a second recreational-only location.
Westwood Neighborhood Association President Angela Pertucci says that second location concerns nearby neighbors already experiencing issues from nearby Northwoods Mall.
"Some of our individual members' concerns are they believe it's not a family-friendly business. Much as a liquor store would be at that location," she said.
Trinity co-owner Tim O'Hern says the business on Glen would be safe.
"There will be a security guard on premises during all operating hours," O'Hearn said. "These are highly, highly secure facilities."
He also said the store would be under 24 hour video surveillance. And he claimed most customers would be in and out of the store fairly quickly. Trinity projects 150 to 200 customers a day at the Glen location.
The Peoria City Council is set to vote on final approval for the sites next Tuesday. They're also subject to final state regulatory approval.
