The mayor, village clerk, and entire police department of East Galesburg have resigned en masse.
In a resignation letter to the village board dated Wednesday, Mayor Teri Peterson says she had hoped to build a team to work together and focus on the future, rather than the past during her 6-month tenure.
However, she says it has become apparent to her that won't happen.
She says people are taking photos and recordings of her without her knowledge or consent and spreading rumors on social media.
She says she had to step down for the sake of her family, professional life, and sanity.
