Revolution Global CEO Mark de Souza sees good signs for the future of cannabis in Illinois.
And the company’s making Delavan its base of operations in the Prairie State.
“Having a large centralized campus for the way that Illinois is set up for the cannabis framework was in our strategic best interest," he said.
Revolution has a 75,000 square foot cultivation facility in Tazewell County, with plans for a second one. De Souza says Revolution will look for $75 to 100 million more in new capital to build a 20,000-square-foot processing facility, and 12 new greenhouses.
The company expects to employ up to 400 people in Delavan by the end of 2022.
He noted tax revenue from the company’s Delavan medical cannabis cultivation center helped fund the city’s new high school.
“Those impacts are real, and if those regulators are working in lockstep with good stewards and industry participants, it’s going to be a healthy business relationship," de Souza said.
Recreational cannabis becomes legal in Illinois on Jan. 1.
