State Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) said he expects the dynamics of the upcoming veto session to be a lot different than the last few years.
When Republican Bruce Rauner was governor, actions were taken by Democrats to override many of his vetoes. But with Democrats now in unified control of state government, Spain said he expects much of the action to be more technical in nature.
“I think the objectives for veto session are going to be corrections or clean-ups to bills that have already passed. So you’ll probably see a number of those initiatives," he said.
Spain siad sales taxes, the state gaming expansion and cannabis are some of the likely bills to come up for modifications later this month.
He doesn’t expect any major new legislation to come up.
Spain is the Republican Conference chairman.
