Washington Police Department via Twitter

A Washington woman died Wednesday after a two-vehicle crash involving a truck-trailer.

Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said first responders headed to the intersection of McClugage, just north of the Spring Creek Road intersection, around 9:15 a.m. after the semi and a passenger vehicle collided.

Illinois State Police Trooper Haylie Polistina said the semi, driven by 47-year-old Francis Wesselhoff of Gridley, struck a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 76-year-old Jerry Bedwell after it failed to yield.

Linda Bedwell, 74, of Washington, was in the passenger vehicle. She was declared dead at the scene. The drivers of both the passenger vehicle and semi were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Jerry Bedwell suffered life-threatening injuries. Wesselhoff has non life-threatening injuries.

An autopsy will be conducted Thursday morning.

McClugage Road was closed for several hours for a crash scene investigation. It re-opened around 2:15 p.m. The investigation is continuing. There is no word on any charges or citations at this time.
