Peoria County Taking Up Cannabis Votes

The Peoria County Board is set to take up two recreational marijuana measures at a special meeting  Wednesday.

The board will vote on imposing a recreational cannabis sales tax. The tax would be three percent in cities and 3 point 75 percent in unincorporated areas.

The board will also vote on a resolution to approve recreational cannabis businesses in unincorporated parts of the county.

If approved, dispensaries, craft growers, cultivators, and cannabis infusers, processors and transportation companies would be allowed in Peoria County.

The board's Public Safety and Justice Committee; and the Executive Committee both indicated they favor recreational cannabis sales.

The county board meets at 5 p.m. at the Peoria County Courthouse.
