LaHood Calls on Feds to Closely Examine Vistra Power Plant Closures

U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Peoria) is calling for federal regulators to scrutinize the closure of four coal-burning power plants in Central Illinois.

Rules adopted by the state earlier this year required Vistra Energy to cut 2,000 megawatts of power generation in Illinois to be in compliance.

The Texas energy company announced it close power plants in Havana, Canton, Hennepin and Coffeen by the end of this year, pending regulatory approval.

LaHood and Republican congressmen Rodney Davis and Mike Bost penned a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to take a close look at the closures and potential negative economic impacts to customers and communities.

The lawmakers called the new Illinois rules a “politically driven anti-coal approach to energy policy.”
