The Peoria Public Schools Board of Education approved a 3 percent raise for Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat at Monday's meeting.
The board voted to approve the raise, along with a $5,000 one-time bonus. School board president Dan Adler said the three percent raise was contractually required.
Kherat made nearly $275,000 in combined salary and benefits annually in the 2017-18 school year. In January, the board voted to pay her $1.3 million in compensation over the next five years in a new contract.
Board members Dan Walther and Chase Klaus voted against the raise, while the other four voted in favor. Walther said he thinks Kherat is doing a good job, but hasn't earned another raise.
"I think she's done a good job, but that's an excessive way to go," he said.
Walther specifically pointed to outstanding discipline issues in the district he said he thinks Kherat needs to address before another raise is considered.
Peoria Federation of Teachers Local 780 President Jeff Adkins-Dutro asked the board to vote against the raise during public comment.
"What you plan to vote for the superintendent, I plan to make our bottom line at the bargaining table in spring," he said.
Adkins-Dutro noted District 150 teachers start at a base salary of $34,000 a year.
Kherat started work as superintendent in July 2015.
