Chicago Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist is returning to the field on Sunday, nearly three months after he took a leave of absence.
Zobrist, 38, is a Eureka native. He was Major League Baseball's 2016 MVP after the Cubs won the World Series, ending a century-long drought. Zobrist also enjoyed winning the World Series during his time with the Kansas City Royals.
In a press conference Sunday, Zobrist said he wasn't sure if he'd be coming back when he first left the team, but he's happy to be back now.
Zobrist took his leave of absence after he and his wife entered divorce proceedings.
Zobrist was taken off the restricted list officially added to the Cubs' 25-man roster on Saturday.
Infielder David Bote was optioned to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. Outfielder Mark Zagunis was designated for assignment to make room for Zobrist.
