Peoria Man Arrested For Nearly 100 Vehicle Burglaries

A Peoria man is believed responsible by police for nearly 100 vehicle burglaries on the city's South Side. 

William Lear, 49, was arrested Thursday in connection with the burglary of 14 vehicles at the Archer Daniels Midland plant on Edmund Street, and an additional 22 vehicle burglaries in the 2900 block of SW Washington. 

Peoria Police Lt. Michael Boland said all 36 burglaries involved forced entry into the vehicle, causing significant damage. 

Lear was found hiding at a building in 1000 block of S. Shelley and arrested. Police have since linked him to 95 incidents over the past several weeks. 

In addition to the burglary counts, Lear also faces charges of criminal damage to property and criminal trespassing. 

He is in the Peoria County Jail.
