OSF HealthCare is in negotiations for a full merger with Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in the Chicagoland area, the group announced Wednesday.

Little Company of Mary is a Catholic hospital system with 2,100 employees operating in 12 facilities in Chicago and some of its nearby southwest suburbs.

“Partnership development, particularly with other mission-driven organizations, is a key component of how we are successfully responding to the call to share our Ministry,” said Bob Sehring, CEO of OSF HealthCare in prepared remarks. “We have long admired the strong Catholic heritage and commitment to the gift of life demonstrated by Little Company of Mary, and believe that together, we can create better health and deliver value for our communities.”

Officials with OSF HealthCare and Little Company of Mary said they expect the merger to become finalized in early 2020.

OSF currently operates 13 hospitals and employs 21,000 people throughout Illinois and Michigan. The hospital system is based in Peoria.
