Governor JB Pritzker joined Department of Transportation employees in Edwards today to talk about infrastructure projects planned for the Peoria region.
Pritzker said the recently enacted capital plan is long overdue and will do more than just fix Illinois roads.
"Over the next six years, 45 billion dollars will repair what’s broken and build what’s needed across our state, all while creating thousands of good-paying jobs here in Peoria," he said.
Among other projects, the plan includes $114 million for the expansion of Route 24 from two to four lanes and $35 million for rehabilitation of the Murray Baker bridge connecting Peoria and East Peoria. It also includes more than $5 million for improvements to Illinois Central College.
Pritzker said while the plan paves the way for improvements, ultimately up to local governments to decide how to get the projects done.
