Deputy Faces Felony Drug Charge

A Peoria County Deputy was arrested Tuesday after being indicted on a drug charge. Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell says Deputy Adam King turned himself in, after a warrant was issued for his arrest. King is charged with at class 3 felony for unlawful possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The Sheriff says King was placed on administrative leave February 22 when a report was filed with the Peoria Police Department alleging the deputy of criminal off-duty conduct. At that point, the sheriff says he requested an Illinois State Police investigation.

King has been a Peoria County Deputy for more than two years. He remains on administrative leave as the internal investigation is ongoing.

Asbell says he is unable to comment further as the internal investigation and a separate criminal investigation continue.
