Peoria Area Home Sales Drop in April

Peoria Public Radio/Tanya Koonce

The downward trend for Illinois home sales continued last month despite an uptick in median prices. The Illinois Realtors organization reports family home and condominium sales statewide were down 5.6% in April when compared with last year.

The Peoria metropolitan area recorded 420 home sales last month. That’s a 10% decline year over year. The local median sales price dropped more than 12%.

The statewide median sales price was up two-percent, at just under $215-thousand. That’s nearly $100-thousand more than Peoria’s median home sales price. The homes that sold in April statewide took an average of 54 days to sell.

Nearly a third of Illinois counties recorded April sales gains. The Kankakee and Carbondale-Marion areas posted the strongest numbers. The Rock Island-Moline and Champaign-Urbana regions were among the worst performers.

The Illinois Realtors association anticipates more homes entering the market by summer, giving buyers more options in the summer months.
