Peoria's Water Street Now Open

Peoria Public Radio/Kristin McHugh

Peoria’s riverfront area is slowly returning to normal nearly two weeks after being inundated with flood waters. The city of Peoria says the 300 block of SW Water Street is now open to all traffic. The Liberty parking lot is also open, but it can only be accessed from Harrison Street.

Public works crews began sandbagging two weeks ago as the Illinois River spilled out of its banks.

Thursday morning, the river level in Peoria was 24.6 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. Forecasters expect the river to remain above flood stage for at least another week.
