Enclosures around large dumpsters at businesses in the city of Peoria may not be constructed with any type of wire. The city council unanimously approved regulations to ban wire and chain link fences to hide refuse containers.
Community Development Director Ross Black says the ordinance also addresses maintenance. “A lot of issues that are out there are obviously just maintenance issues and not necessarily the materials that are there so we make it very clear that any type of screening enclosure, whether it be of a wood material or of marble, still has to be maintained.”
New enclosures using slats in chain link fences are also no longer allowed. The material limitations on enclosures is for new construction only.
The city of Peoria has hired an outside professional to coach community development director Ross Black.
Councilman Sid Ruckriegel says the city council doesn’t question Black’s professional capabilities. But he says members of the public have expressed concerns with Black’s communication skills.
Ruckriegel believes part of the issue stems from budget cuts to the community development department that have caused additional workload on department personnel.
The coaching hire is temporary. Ruckriegel says the city doesn’t have the capacity in its own human resources department to offer the coaching service.
