An industrial fire closed a portion of Peoria's Southwest Adams Street Friday afternoon.
The fire in vehicle scrap pile at Allied Iron and Steel was reported around 1:30 p.m.
Peoria Fire Department Division Chief of Operations Jim Bachman says a train car impeded the initial response. Crews fought the blaze from an overpass on Southwest Adams until the train was moved. Dark plumes of acrid smoke were visible for miles until the fire was contained.
Police closed Southwest Adams between Griswold and I-474 for at least 90 minutes. Interstate exit and entrance ramps at Adams were also affected.
Bachman says the cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
