High Winds Thursday; High Water Through Sunday

National Weather Service

High winds will likely make travel difficult across central Illinois today. A wind advisory remains in effect until 10:00 p.m. Thursday for the entire Peoria Public Radio listening area. Forecasters say southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 are possible. This could make driving difficult for high profile vehicles. Drivers are urged to use caution today. Minor tree damage is also possible.

Minor flooding is expected along portions of the Illinois River through the weekend. A flood warning is in effect for the river in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties. The warning extends  south to the Mississippi River. The National Weather Service in Lincoln reports the river level in Peoria Wednesday night was 17.1 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. Forecasters expect the river to rise to near flood stage by Sunday. Bottomland flooding is possible.
