State Senator Dave Koehler is co-sponsoring legislation to expand clean energy efforts.
Lawmakers introduced the Clean Energy Jobs Act Thursday. The plan would put Illinois on a path to achieve a carbon free power sector by 2030. This includes promoting electric transportation options in an effort to reduce the equivalent of one million diesel and gas-powered vehicles.
It would also pave the way for the state to run on 100-percent clean, renewable energy by 2050.
Koehler, a Peoria Democrat, says the bill promotes a healthier climate and builds on the Future Energy Jobs Act signed by Governor Bruce Rauner in 2016.
“I think it will really help create not only the kind of economic activity that we’re wanting but it’s going to create some excitement for people to come to Illinois,” says Koehler.
Koehler admits the Clean Energy Jobs Act bill is ambitious, but he believes the goals are achievable. He adds dozens of legislators and Governor J.B. Pritzker support the bill’s goals.
