Peoria Considers Changes to Billboard Restrictions

Peoria Public Radio/Kristin McHugh

The city of Peoria 30 years ago approved a policy that would limit the number of billboards in each council district.

City manager Patrick Urich says a proposed ordinance change would place different restrictions on billboards.

"Instead of having district caps, we’re going to go with a citywide cap that will limit the number of billboards that we can have in the city and then change the spacing requirements that we have," says Urich.

The ordinance would place limits on the distance between a billboard and residential neighborhoods. There currently are an estimated 90 billboards in the city.

The council could vote on the proposed changes as early as the next council meeting in two weeks.
