The cities of Peoria and East Peoria are urging residents to register their mobile phones for emergency alerts.
Both cities are utilizing the CodeRED Urgent messaging system.
It allows officials to send text alerts for emergency and necessary community communications. This includes boil orders, evacuation notices, police and fire emergencies and missing persons reports. Officials say the alerts can be issued citywide or customized by neighborhood.
Sign-up information is available on the homepages of the East Peoria and city of Peoria websites. A CodeRED mobile app is also available for download in the iPhone and Google app stores.
