Dangerously Cold Temperatures Place Peoria Under Wind Chill Advisory

The entire Peoria Public Radio listening area is under a wind chill advisory until noon Friday.

Many schools across the region are closed for the entire day. This includes Peoria Public Schools and Quest Academy, all East Peoria public schools, and Peoria Notre Dame. Please check with your local schools if you have questions regarding closings or delays.

The National Weather Service says wind chills should rise above minus-20 between 10:00 a.m. and Noon. Be sure to bundle up if you must be outdoors today. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes.

Forecasters say the frigid weather is expected to linger into next week, with even colder temperatures midweek.
