Greater Peoria Hospitals Limit Visitors Due to Flu Activity

Hospitals in Peoria and Tazewell counties are asking people to limit visits due to increased flu activity.

The voluntary restrictions are in place for Peoria’s OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center and UnityPoint’s Methodist, Proctor and Pekin campuses. Hopedale Medical Complex and Kindred Hospital are also asking the public to limit visits.

Beginning Monday, January 14, the hospitals are asking that visitors be at least 18 years of age. Visitors should wash their hands or use alcohol-based sanitizer when entering and leaving patient rooms. And, individuals who have had flu-like symptoms within seven days are asked not to visit.

Hospital officials say the precautions are an effort to keep patients, visitors and staff from spreading the flu and other illnesses.

The Peoria City/County and Tazewell County health departments indicate there is increased flu activity throughout greater Peoria.
