Incumbents prevailed in local races in Peoria and Tazewell Counties Tuesday. Here’s a rundown of the races watched by Peoria Public Radio:
Voters overwhelmingly supported 18th District Republican Darin Lahood and 17th District Democrat Cheri Bustos in their bids for re-election.
Longtime 88th District State Representative Keith Sommer and 91st District State Representative Mike Unes defeated their challengers to win another term in office. District 92 Democrat Jehan Gordon-Booth and District 73 Republican Ryan Spain were unopposed in their reelection bids.
In Peoria County, Republican Brian Asbell defeated Democratic challenger Brian Fengel in the closely-watched Sheriff’s race. Democrat Jessica Parker won the Peoria County Auditor’s unexpired 2-year term.
Incumbents won in Peoria County Board races. Democratic board chair Andrew Rand, Democrat Allen Mayer, Democrat Robert Reneau, and Republican Paul Rosenbohm handily defeated their challengers.
Democrat Kate Pastucha won the 2-year unexpired term in District 9, earning 52% of the vote against Republican Dave LaHood’s 47%.
Peoria County voters overwhelmingly rejected a half-cent sales tax increase to pay for road improvements and other transportation issues.Meanwhile, a majority of voters approved the Peoria Park District’s referendum to sell a 123 acre parcel known as Racoon Lakes.
In Tazewell County, Republican John Ackerman bested Democrat Brittany Miller to serve as the next Clerk and Recorder. The county will also have a new coroner. Republican Charles Hanley overwhelmingly defeated Democrat Charles Friend in the open race.
Tazewell County voters elected to keep the Auditor’s position by a roughly 14% margin. Voters also said no to the proposed1% Sales tax for school facilities by a slim margin.
The Village of Goodfield will no longer be a dry community. Voters said overwhelmingly they don’t want to maintain the prohibition on the retail sale of alcohol.
