Solar Tour Shines Light on Renewable Energy

Creative Commons

Those interested in learning more about solar energy have an opportunity Saturday. Homeowners and businesses across the state include several locally are participating in the Illinois Solar Tour open houses from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Illinois Solar Tour website details the locations. Organizers say this is not a sales event, rather anyone with interest can attend.

The timing of the tour also leaves a window for those who are interested in installing solar energy to achieve the advance work necessary to take advantage of the solar energy renewable tax credits.

In order to make application, a property owner must meet certain criteria toward installation of a system.

The application window for the state credits opens January 15. The state tax credits can pay for 30-50-percent of the installation project and qualifies people for federal tax credits that can cover an additional 30-percent of the costs.
