The Illinois Valley Central school district is joining a statewide college and career preparation pilot program. The Competency-Based High School Graduation Requirements program emphasizes career development through community and employer partnerships.
State Superintendent of Education Tony Smith says competency-based education is transforming college and career readiness in Illinois. The curriculum combines classroom instruction with apprenticeships, internships and community service.
The pilot program is part of an effort to have 60 percent of the state’s residents obtain a credential or high-quality degree by 2025.
IVC is one of 19 districts across the state enrolled in the the Competency-Based High School Graduation Requirements Pilot Program.
