Peoria Ronald McDonald House Recieves Large Grant

Ronald McDonald House of Central Illinois

A new grant will help Peoria’s new Ronald McDonald house break ground next month. The Peoria project was awarded a $3.3 million grant from AbbVie, a global biopharmaceutical company.

Kelly Thompson is the CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois. She says the grant will go toward the Peoria Ronald McDonald House’s $7-million construction cost. The charity still needs another $1.5 million to complete the project, but a September groundbreaking is expected.

The new building will feature 22 bedrooms and will be located at the corner of Monroe and Spalding near Peoria’s downtown hospitals.

The Peoria grant is part of a $100-million AbbVie donation to 32 Ronald McDonald Houses across the country. That the largest single donation to the charity nationwide.
