Pekin’s post office will be renamed in honor of a Marine who died in Afghanistan. The Broadway Street facility will be known as the “Lance Corporal Jordan S. Bastean Post Office.”

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos made the announcement Thursday. The Illinois Democrat sponsored the bill that was signed into law by the president.

Pekin-native Lance Corporal Bastean was killed in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, during a 2011 combat operation.

The formal dedication of Lance Corporal Jordan S. Bastean Post Office is expected at a later date.
