Peoria Standoff Ends Peacefully

A more than 4-hour police standoff ended peacefully today.

Peoria Police were dispatched just before 10:00 this morning to the 1800 block of Forrest Hill Avenue on the report of a suicidal man with a gun inside his home. He was described as former police but not Peoria. He had removed his family from the home and they called for help. A negotiator was able to eventually make contact with the man. He came out showing his hands first, peacefully and on his own. He was immediately taken to a unmarked vehicle and transported to the hospital. Peoria Police Spokeswoman Amy Dotson says they are not releasing the man’s identity.

"Due to his privacy, and the nature of the call, I cannot release any personal information regarding this incident, and I hope we can all respect his privacy," she said.

Police spent a couple of hours trying to communicate with the man, eventually deploying the robot before the negotiators were able to make contact. The standoff halted traffic along portions of Forrest Hill, From Dries Lane to Gale Avenue for more than four hours.
