Peoria and Normal Fresh Market Stores To Close

Central Illinois grocery shoppers will have fewer choices in the coming months. The Fresh Market announced Monday it’s closing 15 stores across the country. This includes stores in Peoria and Normal.

CEO Larry Appel says the store closings are part of a realignment strategy.

“Over the last eight months, our company has been executing a turnaround plan and we’ve seen great progress. However, for a variety of reasons unique to each retail location, that progress is not evenly distributed and, as a result, we have decided to close these long-term, underperforming stores,” says Appel

The North Carolina-based chain says it will work to relocate affected employees. Official closing dates have not been announced.

Stores in Glen Ellyn and Lincolnshire will also close. Eleven stores in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin are also affected.
