Splash Pad at Peoria's Harrison Park Coming Soon

The Greensplash feature planned for Harrison Park on Peoria’s far south side is closer to being a reality. An Illinois American Water crew is installing the necessary water line for the splash pad.

Eric Larson is overseeing the project for Illinois American Water. He says there’s been a lot of upfront design work, including careful consideration in selecting the location. “We wanted to make sure it was something that would be appreciated in that spot, that there was nothing else here being offered. This definitely nails it. So we are excited to offer it here at the spot in Peoria.”

Larson says, “Now we are actually breaking ground, making a tap in the water main. After that we’ll be shooting the water service to the actual splash pad location and then we go from there.”

After the water access is complete, the park will have an electrical box installed and concrete poured. It’s expected to be complete next month.

The splash pad feature of the community park is being constructed with a grant to the City of Peoria from the American Water Charitable Foundation, and the National Recreations and Park Association.

The new splash pad will include a bioswale for water runoff. That green component will also serve an educational purpose.
