Long-time public servant George Shadid was laid to rest Wednesday at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Tanya Koonce reports:
The former state senator, Peoria County Sheriff, and Peoria Police Officer was remembered for his candor, his boisterous and jovial character, his genuineness and his everyday statesmanship.
Those in attendance at the packed St. Sharbel Parish service, spanned the who's who of the region and state.
Few had completely dry eyes as his son, US District Judge Jim Shadid remembered his father for a life well-lived in service to others and undying commitment to his family.
Laughter also accompanied many of the memories of George Shadid whose career spanned more than 5-decades in police work and the Illinois Senate. He was 88.
