The Illinois ACLU Is Listening...

The Illinois ACLU has five times more members today than it had last year at this time just after the presidential election. That’s prompted the state civil liberties union to head out on a listening tour visiting the cities with ACLU Chapters.

Colleen Connell is the executive director of ACLU Illinois. She says the WE THE PEOPLE tour so far has shed light on several areas of common concern. “LGBTQ rights, policing, abortion rights, contraceptive rights, freedom of speech, criminal justice reform, you know there are layers of what are we concerned about because of what is happening in the country at-large and what are we concerned about because we are seeing some variation on the local level.”

The next ACLU-Illinois WE THE PEOPLE town hall meeting is the last week of November in Bloomington.
