A Richwoods High School alum, with a heart for immigrants, has been inducted into the prestigious Lincoln Academy of Illinois.
Diana Rubi is a senior at Monmouth College, majoring in political science and international studies.
The Lincoln Academy annually recognizes one student laureate from each four-year college and university across the state for overall excellence, including community involvement.
Rubi, a Mexico native, has helped Peoria’s Hispanic community with services, like translating and tutoring, since she was in elementary school. The first-generation college student says she’ll continue working with immigrants in Central Illinois and wants to study immigration law.
On Sat., the Lincoln Academy presented each student with a certificate, a medallion, and a $1,000 check during a ceremony, with Gov. Bruce Rauner and First Lady Diana Rauner.
