Every year, Peoria County auctions off property that has been acquired through the tax process system.
While most of the 600 properties this year are vacant lots, there are 44 structures, mostly houses, available in the City of Peoria. Most of them have code violations.
Peoria Land Development Manager Eric Setter says the city is being proactive this year in letting potential buyers know in advance what issues they may face. In past years, the city dealt with code violations after the sale of a house.
"Every structure that’s going to the Peoria County trustee auction has a sign in front of it. Now that lets them know what would be required, what kind of permits will be pulled, what work will be done by the purchaser versus what work has to be done by a licensed contractor in the city," Setter said.
Prospective buyers can find details for each property at peoriacodeviolations.com. The auction is August 30th at the Packard Plaza in downtown Peoria.
