Peoria’s annual firework show is expected to light up the sky tonight at 9-30 as scheduled. Unity Point’s annual Red, White and Boom is considered the largest fireworks display in the state.
Fireworks on the Illinois River haven’t been rained-out in its 31-year history. The forecast started off calling for rain. But that likelihood has since been reduced. Regardless, Alpha Media and the Peoria Police Department say if wind or rain should become an issue, they’ll communicate the situation through local media. The rain date is Wednesday night.
Food vendors, street performers and the Kids Zone begin at 4 p.m on the Peoria Riverfront. VIP ticket holders can enter that venue starting at 5 p.m.
East Peoria High School Athletic Boosters will have food available in RiverFront Park on that side of the river starting at 5 p.m. Wildlife Prairie Park will also have exhibits. Grills of any type, alcohol and fireworks including sparklers are not allowed in East Peoria RiverFront Park.
The traffic pattern in downtown East Peoria after the fireworks will be adjusted to handle the exodus.
CityLink is not operating its bus schedule today. But the transit agency is providing park and ride service from Evergreen Square to the transit center starting at 5 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. CityLink Buses will make the return trip after the fireworks with the last shuttle departing the downtown Peoria transit center at 11 p.m. The cost is $1 each way.
