The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Heat Warning for our region until Saturday, 7/22 at 8 P.M. With the onset of hot summer temperatures have some groups urging extra caution.

- The Peoria City/County Health Department says cooling centers are available through the area, including Friendship House at corner of Madison & Wayne and the Peoria Civic Center Verizon Café during business hours, the CityLink Transit Center on South West Adams that has more expanded hours.
- You can also call 211, the Heart of Illinois Resource Number for cooling center and other community options.
- The health department is also reminding people to take frequent breaks when working in the heat and drink plenty of water. The agency is also offering the reminder not to leave leave children, elderly, or pets inside a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes, with the windows rolled down.
- Pets left outside should have access to plenty of shade and fresh water.
