The Community Conversation on Race in Peoria continues this week with more small working group meetings.

The small groups have met once already. They grew out of the Community Conversations on Race and Economic Opportunity in December and January that included more than 400 people.

The asset development and justice groups met Tues.

Stacey Peterson handles public relations for the city. She says the small groups will have third set of meets to continue working through the layers of suggestions and goals coming out of the groups.

“Then we have to identify are these programs or goals being addressed in some capacity. Where? How do we get that out there? Are there people in that vary room who showed up who have a stake in this community and what it to be a better place and want to take a lead on this,” Peterson said.

The work groups eventually will be chaired by a group member. About a dozen people participated in the asset development conversation. It centered on ways to improve the rental housing stock with three long and short term goals.

The work groups are meeting at Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Center. Meeting dates and times are on the city’s website.
