Caterpillar Moves HQ to Deerfield

Caterpillar is moving its global  headquarters to a Northern Chicago suburb. A statement from the company says the new headquarters building in Deerfield is minutes away from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, is centrally located near major interstates, and offers direct access to the Chicago Metra.

Caterpillar reportedly chose the location about 20 minutes from O’Hare after a thorough site selection process. Caterpillar has a multi-year lease agreement with Corporate 500 office park. The statement says the company expects about 100 employees to relocate this year, and to have about 300 people in the new headquarters when fully operational next year.

Mayor Harriet Rosenthal says Deerfield is pleased Caterpillar selected the community for its new global headquarters where it will join several other well-known national and international companies.

Caterpillar CEO Jim Umpleby says the transition from Peoria to Deerfield will begin later this year, with the vast majority of employees remaining in the Peoria area. Umpleby says more than 12,000 employees will remain in central Illinois and the company will continue its philanthropic and civic involvement.
